Assignment III Discussion Post ~ Evaluating Websites

Good morning!

For this post, let's edit what I have written here to include what websites each of us will be evaluating. Prior to evaluating these, however, you need to evaluate the website in the lesson for this week and email the professor. This is due by Wednesday. This week's assignments are individual assignments. Each of us will be evaluating 3 different websites. Please include below the URLs for the websites you will be evaluating. In terms of types of websites we are looking it, I think they should be about how to research or resources on researching for kids or teaching kids and specific content about significant people of Kalamazoo. I have started a list below of types of websites we think we should look to evaluate - please feel free to add to it.

Here are the due dates for this week as well:
Email to instructor, due by Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.
Evaluation of Web Sites is due by 11:59 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017.

  1. While looking for websites, I found this ACTUAL event that takes place about Kalamazoo history! Thought it was interesting, and potentially of interest to attend as we work through the project.

    1. I had no idea that that was a thing! Maybe we could try to attend! That could be fun (and educational)! Great find!

  2. Hello! How is everyone doing on their websites? Bethany, what type of websites did you end up finding and looking at?

    1. I'm struggling with finding student-centered websites. I haven't evaluated the websites I found yet, I just wanted to keep the URLs on the blog for easy access later. I found one on Kalamazoo's history and two for teachers on teaching research methods to students. I only briefly glanced at them thus far. I plan on evaluating them tomorrow.

    2. I will look this evening and tomorrow for student-centered websites. I'll be doing my evaluations either tonight or tomorrow. With a no school day for school-aged kids today, I am nannying all day today.

  3. My plans did not quite go as I was hoping, so I am finally sitting down to evaluate websites right now!

  4. I thought, given the size of Kalamazoo, therected would be more historical references out there! I have an easier time finding information on my small hometown, than I am with Kalamazoo! I'm still researching and intend to finish evaluations tonight.

    1. What is being deemed "local"? Could we use a city near kalamazoo that has historical information more readily available? Or use a city in Kalamazoops county?

    2. Predictive text is not cool!

    3. I believe local would be within the city of Kalamazoo.

  5. I put the National Archives on my list because I thought you guys had a good selection of "teaching history" sites. So after reading many teacher reviews about the effectiveness of the site in aiding student research, I thought we could use a site for our project students could use to conduct primary source research.
