Concept Maps [Rough Drafts]

As you get your concept maps drawn, please upload an image of your concept map by editing this post and inserting an image. I thought this was the easiest, most effective way to have each of the concept maps in one place for us to look over.

I added in blue to the one that I have drawn to include other ideas from your concept maps as well:

  1. I apologize that my concept map is not as clean and tidy - that was my third draft...

  2. No worries, Taylor! I think it looks great! You took into consideration a lot of things that are definitely needed as a part of the project!

  3. I'm attempting to get mine in there...technology isn't my friend today

  4. What grade are we looking at for doing this project? 5th grade?

    1. I think between 3rd-5th grade would be ideal!

    2. I don't know if 3rd or 4th grade often do in-depth research projects like this? I think 5th grade could pull the most out of it. Is that okay with you guys?

    3. I'm good with 5th grade.

  5. So, what are we keeping in our final concept map? What needs to be included? What does the end project look like - like, what are we working towards? Is it something like the students are stationed around a track outside or inside a gymnasium in which they are dressed like the significant person from Kalamazoo's history giving a speech to the parents/community?

    1. I just posted a pic above of my concept map with added ideas from your concept maps in blue. What do you think?

  6. I think with the added items, the updated concept map covers everything. I do think we should begin with venue. Since most people would go to a library to research a historical event, maybe it could be an interactive event? With each student really learning the person they're portraying, enough to play out their story but interact with the viewer as well?

    2. Have the library be the venue, like the stories/history are coming to life.

    3. I completely agree with you - however, schools cannot always afford trips to the library or particular students would not have transportation to get to the library. Also, we would theoretically have to coordinate with the library as well. If it is at a library, is it during or after school hours?

    4. I would think during school hours. What do you think?

  7. Maybe in the school library?

  8. I like the updated concept map!

I think doing the event in the school library - imagining it is big enough - would be great! I also think the gymnasium would be a good option if we were concerned on space. The event could be held during school hours (students present to their peers; kind of like a practice session) as well as after school hours, where parents/grandparents/other teachers/administrators/community members would be invited to attend. Kind of like a science fair but about history! What do you guys think?

    1. Sounds good! Is there anything else we should add to the concept map? If not, I can make the final copy using the program?

    2. Also, I added a few other things stemming from the primary circle: learning goals, how to communicate with parents and colleagues, bringing in experts or speakers, assessment, and museum field trip (great resource for students to see some artifacts in person). Do you want to keep these or omit these?

    3. If you would like to make the final copy, that would be great, Taylor! I think your additions to the concept map fit in nicely, and should be kept. Thank you so much!
