Getting Started

Hello!

Thank you for joining! I have posted the blog URL on Elearning. We can begin communicating about assignment II - the concept map - as soon as you would like. In addition, we need to complete the first Reading Reflection.  I know it is not due until Sunday, January 22nd, but I figured it could be better to start earlier rather than later. We need to decide how we are approaching these assignments, whether that be we do them all as a group or if we divide up the work between us and do our work individually. Also, I think it could be a good idea if we set up a time where we all meet on the blog to communicate to one another each week. Let me know what you think by replying to this post.

Thank you!

-Taylor

  1. Hello Taylor!

Thank you for setting up the blog! I think we should begin communicating about Assignment II soon, and decide which program we will be using to set up our concept map. I have used Kidspiration/Inspiration software before, but I have not used Bubbl.us. Do you have any experience with either of these programs?

For the reading reflection, is it to be done as a group or individually? Sorry for my confusion on this. If it is, in fact, done as a group, I think splitting up the different components and making sure we all complete our portion by an agreed upon day of the week prior to the due date, that would be best. We could combine/make suggestions on our peers' work. As for future assignments, perhaps a GoogleDoc or something of the sort could be linked to our blog and we could work collaboratively/split up the work?

I agree that it would be a good idea to set up a time where we all meet on the blog to communicate with each other each week, and as necessary. I am available to do so on Mondays any time until 4:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays after 6:00pm, Wednesdays between 1-5:30pm, and Fridays any time before 3:00pm and after 6:00pm, and of course, weekends.

Thank you! I look forward to working together!

  2. Yes, thank you for setting this up! Splitting up the work would work well, I think. It'll give everyone a bit more flexibility in regards to time and schedules. But I do agree, if we split the work up, a peer review would be a great idea. I would find it helpful. I do not have experience with either of the programs mentioned, so I am open to the group's decision.

    1. I am available on weekends mostly. I unfortunately work second shift, and am not out of work until after 11 pm.

  3. Weekends work for me as well! What day and what time? I am not familiar with either of the programs. I think we should use the one that you are most familiar with, Bethany.

The reading reflections are done as a group. I think that is a great idea about connecting a google page to this - we just need to figure out how exactly to do this. Otherwise, we can always do that separate from the doc but any communication that we need to have on the document we can have on the blog instead.

  4. Usually Saturdays I am available at any time, and Sundays would have to be after noon.

The program I am most familiar with is pretty user friendly, we just have to keep in mind that if we use it on our personal computers that they are 30-day trials. We might want to stagger when we sign up, just to keep it free. Otherwise, I saw that the program was available on campus computers. Maybe each of us could draw our own concept maps and upload an image to the blog and one of us could combine everyone's ideas into a single concept map using Inspiration software?

About the reading reflections, I am unsure how to connect the document to the blog. Perhaps it would just be best to do it separately and just communicate on the blog.

As is posted on Elearning for our class, reflections need to include:
    Your reflection should include:

Discussion on what you need to keep in mind as you start the journey through Project-Based Learning (PBL).
Discussion on the overall benefits of the PBL approach.
Discussion on the benefits to students who participate in PBL.
Discussion on the benefits to teachers who invest in PBL.
Discussion on what issues need to be considered in PBL approach.
Discussion on New Technology High as an example of New Technology Model.
Discussion on the benefits of social bookmarking.

Perhaps we could divide up the reflection so each of us has a couple of bullet points to cover individually, we could upload it to a common place to peer review and make final adjustments before submission?

    1. I think creating a montage of all of the concept maps would be a great idea. Everyone sees things differently and it may give ours a unique edge.

  5. I can do these ones:
Discussion on the overall benefits of the PBL approach.
Discussion on the benefits to students who participate in PBL.
Discussion on the benefits to teachers who invest in PBL.

    1. Another idea we could do is begin a new blog post but we all edit on it and it is the assignment for reading reflections? I don't know if this makes sense?

    3. *Correction* I can do the last two discussion points for this reflection:

Discussion on New Technology High as an example of New Technology Model.
Discussion on the benefits of social bookmarking.

Is this good with you, Amanda?

    4. And Taylor - I think that is a great idea for how we can collaboratively work on reflections!

  6. It's fine with me. I'll take the items you guys didn't list. I'm not sure what the best way to post the assignment info would be other than to make a section for assignments on the blog. It may be the easiest way so we don't have to add many more places to check and keep track of. I'll do the Discussion on what you need to keep in mind as you start the journey through Project-Based Learning (PBL) andDiscussion on what issues need to be considered in PBL approach.

  7. Hello!

I was just on Elearning and noticed that we were supposed to begin communication on the Discussion Board where we signed up for our blog, so I began a thread about what we could do for our project as we begin thinking about our concept maps. :)
